[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]One of the most important steps in the custom jewelry design process is wax carving and casting. It is an easy step to overlook and not consider important to the customer, but finalizing the design in the wax model will be paramount to getting your design perfect.
A wax model is the actual size and shape of your custom design. After the drawing of your design, the jeweler starts the project with a wax model. Your wax model for your custom-designed ring will either be hand carved or designed on a computer and made by a computer-aided wax-making machine.
A drawing made of your design is not a guarantee that your jeweler understood what you really want in the details of your ring.  If your ring design is at all complex, it is recommended to see the wax and approve of it before your jeweler takes the next step.
When jewelry designs are cast, gold is melted and poured into a hollow mold. The metal fills the space of your design and is allowed to cool slowly. The piece is then polished and it goes through various steps until it’s beautifully complete.
In order for you to have a positive experience in the making of your custom design, know that details such as the following will be important to consider:  How thick is the gold? How rounded or angularly straight are the edges?  Are the settings part of the design or soldered on top with solder after casting? How high will your diamonds be set? These questions can be answered by seeing your wax model.
